Harper's yearbook entry mentions that he is both on the football team and notes 'knitting'. I don't know if he's secure enough in his position to being willing to do the latter while on the bus to a game of the former, though. (A shame -- we need more men comfortable with their involvement in the fiber arts.)
The background was drawn from my memories of road trips up the coast as a kid. Lots of trees and road cuts. The sketch this picture was based on was a bit larger -- I ended up cropping bits out. I also used Wikipedia as a hand reference.
