"Celena?"
Celena stood up from her studies -- it wasn't like she was making much progress anyway -- and went to the balcony. "It's Queen Millerna," she said, almost absently.
"Could you go let me in?" the young queen waved at her. "I don't think anyone heard me pull up."
Celena moved as fast downstairs as her dress could allow and opened the door. "Sorry," she said. "Your Majesty," she added, quickly. "Miss Emily's out with the flu, and so are Cook's children, so Brother sent them both home. Come in, please. "
"Oh, don''t worry about it," the queen said. "if Allen is so concerned about things, I'm sure I can send someone over from the palace to fill in for him. It's not like we're running short. Is he here?"
Celena shook her head. "At the palace."
"Good," the Queen said. "I have something for you, and he'd probably think it was a bad idea for me to give you them." She handed Celena a package, which Celena carefully opened. It contained a card, and some clothing -- a blouse that looked almost like the bodice of a woman's dress, but cut short, and a pair of fitted trousers. "I used to wear clothing similar to this. It's Egzardian, and a lot easier to move around and ride in than skirts. I gave you the name of the seamstress in town where I got them, as well, if you like it."
"Brother won't like it, will he? That's why you asked if he was here." Celena said, already mentally trying on the outfit. It would be a lot better than a skirt, or even the old clothing of Brother's, which tended to be far too loose on her.
"He didn't like me wearing them," Millerna said. "He'll probably like you wearing them a bit better than borrowing his clothing any time you leave the house without him." She smiled at her, and Celena smiled back.
