"It's a thimble. My mum has several just like it at home." Molly stared dubiously at the small, metal object that Arthur had produced from dog-eared cardboard box.
"It's a Muggle thimble," Arthur corrected. "Bob traded it to me for my old chess set." In which case, Bob had gotten the better deal in Molly's opinion, even if Arthur had gotten a new chess set for Christmas this year. "That means it's not enchanted."
"My mum uses a non-enchanted thimble. She says that most of the enchanted ones are a waste of money unless you have a bad self-stitching needle or are clumsy." Trust a boy not to know things like that. Molly's mum had tried to teach all of them to sew early on, especially given how often they ended up snapping buttons and tearing holes no matter what spells she used. Only Molly had really taken to it, probably because her brothers got all snotty about having to learn, despite her dad telling them stories about being punished for messy robes during the 'good old days' at Hogwarts.
"Well, does your mum have one that was made in a Muggle machine? I have a book on it. They get a big chunk of metal, and-"
Molly really didn't care how Muggles made thimbles. They couldn't use magic to make them, after all. "What else did you get?"
"This!" Arthur held up a small slip of paper. "It's called a sticking plaster. You put it on a cut." He started tearing at the paper, which Molly realized was some kind of wrapper. "If I get to the string, then pull it..."
"And?" Molly asked. "Then what does it do?"
"Um..." Arthur said. He had undone the paper, and a strip of something was now stuck to his finger. He tugged it off, sticking it to his other hand. "I think you just wear it until the cut goes away on its own."
"That's it? It doesn't stick the skin together or turn into new skin or something?"
"Well, it's not magic, Molly. It's sticky though."
Molly sighed, reaching for the plaster and pulling it off. Indeed, it had struck to her thumb and she had to reach for a bit of the paper to stick it to before she could get it off. She returned it to Arthur, who put it back in the box. Honestly, boys collected the weirdest things.
